Belgrade, December 11, 2023
The panel discussion on the topic of the Contribution of Serbian Architects to the Development of African Countries, held on December 11, 2023, at the Museum of African Art, aimed to present, through presentations and discussions, the results of the work of the panelists on the architectural and urban heritage of Serbian architects created on the African continent over the past six decades. The panelists deal with architecture on the territory of Africa through research, scientific, artistic and curatorial work, and presented a series of projects with which Serbian architects have contributed to the construction of the identity of African countries after gaining independence in the 1960s. The panel presented various research topics, research processes and results – from the architecture of the MAU building, which is a legacy of cooperation with African countries, to the architecture of various typologies in Africa by authors and companies from Serbia, to contemporary interpretations, exhibitions and interpretations of these experiences. In addition to the fact that the architectural heritage discussed at the panel is significant for the societies and environments for which it was created, it also includes notable achievements in the oeuvres of architects from Serbia.
